Training Courses for International Students

  • National Trade Academy Certificate in New Zealand Farm Skills

    The aim of this 12-week course is to teach international students entry level industry skills and knowledge used by NZ farmers to manage farm production and efficiency. This course will enable international students to work on a New Zealand farm before they return to their own country and apply the knowledge and skills gained, for the benefit of their own country.

    The course covers both theory and practical industry skills such as: use of farm vehicles, fencing, livestock health, livestock feeding, milking techniques, and injury and safety factors. The course will cover options in Dairying, Sheep or Beef farming.  Details »

  • National Trade Academy Certificate in Agriculture Skills (Level 3)

    The aim of this 25-week course is to teach international students more advanced practical industry skills and knowledge used by New Zealand farmers to increase farm production and efficiency. The course is designed to provide more in-depth learning than the 12-week course and incorporates extended work experience and field visits.

    After successfully completing all the unit standards, it is anticipated that graduates will have an increased understanding of how they can improve farm productivity and efficiency through increased knowledge of livestock management, pasture management, livestock feeding and health, Dairy, Sheep or Beef farm management, using farm vehicles and machinery correctly and safely.  Details »

  • National Trade Academy Certificate in Equine Skills (Level 3)

    The aim of this 38-week course is to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in the Equine industry. After completion of the course, a student will competently meet an employer's expectations by demonstrating adequate practical skills and a general understanding of the industry, as well as being able to recognise and develop equine business opportunities.

    Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the health and care of horses through the teaching of skills such as: supplementary feeding, paddock management, stable management, grooming, farrier techniques, and lunging. They will be able to recognise signs of good and ill health and identify and manage plants and trees potentially poisonous to horses. Students will have the option of improving their riding skills and demonstrating knowledge in the selection, fitting and care of saddlery.  Details »

  • English Beginners to Intermediate

    Students will have the opportunity to develop English Language skills at each level they enrol in, with a focus on the systems of English (Grammar, Vocabulary and pronunciation) and on the four language skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing). Emphasis will be on listening and speaking skills at each level.  Details »

  • English + Agriculture

    Improve your English language skills and learn New Zealand agriculture terminology and practical farming skills. You can learn or improve on any of the following skills: Ride an ATV (Quadbike), Ride a motorbike, Drive a tractor, Fix Fences, Milking operations in a NZ Dairy Shed.  Details »

  • English + Horse Riding

    Improve your English language skills and ride horses. You can learn or improve any of the following skills: Riding, Horse Care, Feeding, Dressage, Show Jumping, Cross Country Riding.  Details »
