STAR / Gateway & Trade Academy Programmes

Star & Gateway Programmes

The National Trade Academy runs a variety of different Star and Gateway programmes for secondary school students. If you want to find out what it's like to work in the Agriculture, Apiculture, Horticulture, Equine, Conservation, or Animal Care, Engineering (Welding) and Driver's License & Logistics, while still at school, then we have a programme to suit you.

The Star and Gateway programmes are funded via secondary schools so that students have the opportunity to try out different industries and gain NZQA units standards at the same time. They are like 'taster' courses, where students come out and work in a small group at our Training Centre and local farms or businesses. The programmes usually run for one day a week for five to eight weeks, however, days and lengths of the programmes are often flexible. We have programmes running each term, so contact the National Trade Academy or your Star or Gateway Coordinator at your school to find out more.
