Strategic Purpose Statement

This qualification is intended for school leavers, people who may have changed careers, or adult learners new to the agriculture industry. The purpose of this qualification is to provide the pastoral farming sector with graduates who have broad theoretical understanding and practical capabilities in the farming sector. Graduates will be capable of working under limited supervision in the pastoral farming sector.

Graduate Profile

Graduates of this qualification will have knowledge and skills related to;

• Livestock handling/feeding/health
• Anatomy and Physiology
• Rural Health and Safety

Education Pathways

This qualification may build on the New Zealand Certificate in Primary Industry Skills (Level 2).  May lead on to the New Zealand Certificate in Agriculture (Level 4) with strands in Arable Farming, Dairy Farming, and Livestock Farming or other industry qualifications.

Employment Pathways

Graduates of this qualification may be employed in a range of roles in pastoral farming enterprises requiring limited supervision, for example milk harvester, shepherd, dairy farm assistant or general farm hand.

Entry Criteria

Students must enjoy working in an outdoor environment and with animals. You will be a motivated learner with a keen interest in agriculture and have the capability to cope with the physical demands of the qualification.
