Level 4 Rural Animal Healthcare Assisting Testimonials

I'm currently taking the Rural Animal Healthcare Assisting Level 4 course at the National Trade Academy (NTA), and it's been a really rewarding experience so far. The course is all about learning how to care for rural animals, whether they're on farms or in veterinary clinics. I’ve really been enjoying it - we’re covering so many useful topics that help us better understand animal health and wellbeing.
What I especially like is how hands-on the learning is. We get to practice a lot of the skills right here at NTA before heading out on placements at vet clinics or farms, like dairy or sheep farms. It’s given me a lot more confidence.
So far, we've learnt a wide range of things: from how to act professionally in a workplace and understanding infection control, to studying the anatomy and physiology of rural animals. We've also covered animal husbandry and behaviour, milking dairy cows, vaccinating sheep, goats, and cattle, drenching sheep and goats, tail bleeding in cattle, body condition scoring, and basic animal handling. There’s so much more, and it’s all helping me feel well-prepared for real-world work in animal care.

The Level 4 Rural Animal Healthcare Assisting course has been going really well - I’m genuinely enjoying it! It’s been such a valuable experience, especially for someone like me who’s aiming to work in a vet clinic. The course has given me the knowledge and skills I need to feel confident in that environment.

What’s great is that it doesn’t just prepare you for one path. If becoming a veterinary technician isn’t quite your thing, this course can still lead you toward other specialized roles - like pregnancy scanning, if that’s something you’re into. It also opens doors to farming and working with livestock and other animals, where the skills you’ve gained are super relevant and practical.

Overall, it’s an awesome environment to be part of. You’re surrounded by like-minded people, and the support from the school is constant. NTA really encourages you to grow and succeed, and that makes all the difference.

My name is Alannah Pearle, I am studying the Rural Animal healthcare Assistant level 4 with Elmer as my tutor. I am absolutely thrilled to be a part of this class! So far I have thoroughly enjoyed everything about this course, including the assessments and practicals, also the lessons and lectures Elmer provides. My Tutor Elmer is extremely supportive, patient and very knowledgeable on every subject/topic we cover. He answers any questions I have at any time which is amazing.
I have learnt so much within the span of 3 months including Professionalism, Anatomy and Physiology, Animal behavior, Animal Ethics and welfare and not to mention all the practicals and farm visits we do as a class every week. I feel very confident working with and providing healthcare to large animals, especially cattle since I have been doing this course. Which has already led me into getting a job as a casual vet tech with Oxford Vetlife, and I am currently doing the teat-sealing season with them. My tutor Elmer and this course is setting up me and my classmates for real success in the animal healthcare industry and I am very excited to continue studying and working towards my qualification.
