Strategic Purpose Statement

This programme covers the basic and core skills which have been identified by employers as being important of the work place. The programme has been designed so learners may be able to transfer successfully into employment, community life and/or further study.

Graduate Profile

Graduates of this programme will gain an understanding of and be able to:

  • Use safe work practices in a primary industry workplace.
  • Carry out practical production tasks associated with an entry-level role in a primary industry context.
  • Literacy and Numeracy core skills identified as important for the workplace.

Education Pathways

This programme is an entry pathway for learners without qualifications who are seeking employment, or are newly employed, in the primary industries.

This programme may lead on to a range of primary sector qualifications at level 3.

Employment Pathway and Outcomes

Learners will benefit by gaining recognition of their skills and entry into a training pathway leading to a range of careers in industries such as:

  • Growing and Production (Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry, Seafood, Seed Industry).
  • Primary Industry Servicing (Farming, Equine Industries, Animal Care, Machinery and Equipment).

Entry Criteria

Interests in either Agriculture, Equine, Animal Care or Horticulture is preferred:

  • 16-19 years of age at the time of commencing study.
  • Not hold NCEA or similar qualifications.
  • Enrolment is subject to an interview.

Youth guarantee criteria may apply. Fees free for eligible students.
